What’s happening on the world famous Mill Avenue this week in Tempe, AZ you might ask? Well, an objective has been brewed up by a growing number of participating companies here in downtown Tempe. Our objective is to become a positive force affecting progress in Tempe’s battle against poverty and homelessness. We want to empower the local business community to raise funds for awareness for social services. This is the Downtown Tempe Mission Campaign.
There are many parts to this whole objective. This is not a one time mission and it is mutlifaceted as to how we can all raise funds together. This is a not for profit endeavor for all participating parties. And there are four charities that will be recieving 25% transparent funds from this mission each.
The local charities benefitting from this project are:
Tempe Community Action Agency’s Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program– the only shelter program in Tempe that provides for the immediate needs of the homeless individuals and offers them resources for finding employment and regaining self-suffciency.
Tumbleweed Center for Youth Development– serves homeless vulnerable youth, ages 12-24.
Community Bridges– provides comprehensive, medically integrated behavioral health programs which include prevention, education, and treatment services.
CARE 7– dispatched by Tempe Police and/or Tempe Fire Dept, CARE 7 assists clients at the point of crisis in their lives and they continue support, assistance, and referral through the crisis point, healing, and recovery.
There are so many different ways for consumers, residents, and local businesses to participate in the Downtown Tempe Mission Campaign!
So what are we doing here at Blasted Barley Beer Company to participate? We are fortunate enough to get the chance to work with the two other downtown Tempe breweries of coarse!
A triple downtown Mill Avenue brewery collaboration is taking place this Wednesday June 15th. Gordon Biersch Brewing Company, Pedal Haus Brewery, and Blasted Barley Beer Company will be teaming up to brew this very special local craft beer. Derek Osborne of Pedal Haus, Gary Fitze of Gordon Biersch, and Ian Campbell-O’Neill of Blasted Barley (that’s me) will gather together to brew a first beer in a series of delicious and charitable beers.
So let’s talk a little bit about what we will be brewing!
As you saw in the title, this is an India Pale Ale! IPA’s can be very bold, bright, and beautiful. This was a little of the inspiration for us to create hope through beer for the less privileged human beings around us.
Mill’s Mission IPA — 6.5% ABV — 65 IBU’s
Three distinct brewers used three types of hops and three types of malted barley to craft this delicate Magnum, Mosaic and Simcoe IPA. The hops exert notes of tropical berry, tangerine citrus, and a soft floral nose. The malty sweetness harnesses a rich, toasty, and biscuity undertone. A healthy addition of oats creates smooth medium body for a clean finish.
As mentioned before, this IPA will be brewed this Wednesday, June 15th. We are scheduled to release this wonderful IPA on July 11th! The Mill’s Mission IPA will be poured at all three breweries including more participating bars and restaurants on Mill Avenue. We can’t put into words how excited we are to help the community and brew some amazing local craft beer together. Also, some influential minds from the political side of Tempe will be inside Gordon Biersch for the first round of this Mission Brew as well. I’ll keep everyone informed as our outreach potential continues to grow. Thanks for supporting the homeless, downtown Tempe, and local craft breweries!
Here we stand.
Mash paddle in hand.
Gathered together with no sorrow.
Looking for a bright tomorrow.
Do you even brew?
Derek, Gary, and Ian sure do.
